Multilayer PCB Inner Layer Printing
Circuit Patterns are defined in a big clean and yellow room. Clean room to make sure of no dust gets onto the surface to avoid short circuits. After being clean, panels will be automatically coated with a layer of UV sensitive film/ink and yellow light in the room won’t do any affect to the film/ink. CCD Cameras are applied during the coating. Then UV lights are on with an average of 1 to 20 seconds depending on the process for selective photoresist exposure. The boards are polymerized and ready to be developed.
Outside the yellow room follows the quality inspection and etching. Etching is the critical step for imaging. The panel is washed with an alkaline solution which dissolves the unexposed area of photoresist exposing the copper that is unnecessary. The unprotected copper is removed then. The copper pattern we want is protected by the hardened resist and is defined. we can see the inner layer image at the end of this step. After etching, the photoresist film will be completely removed.
Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) will be another vital step for multilayer printed circuit boards PCB inner layer print since all problems occurring on pattern definition wouldn’t be able to get fixed after layers bonding. All of the panels pass through the Automatic Optical Inspection machine. The machine scans the panel, receiving a digital image of etched pattern and compares it with the reference pattern formed during the PCB’s preparation for production based on original design from the GERBER file. Any discrepancies or defects detected are presented to the technician for assessment.
